    Welcome to the PALSA Project!

    The project is a series of videos to help you develop your skills as an autonomous learner of English as a second language.

    The videos are meant for intermediate and advanced learners of English at the CEGEP and university level.

    We invite you to watch the following video to know more about the project.

    Bienvenue dans le projet PALSA !

    Ce projet est une série de vidéos conçues pour vous aider à développer vos compétences en tant qu’apprenant autonome de l’anglais langue seconde.

    Ces vidéos s’adressent aux apprenants d’anglais de niveau intermédiaire et avancé, au CÉGEP et à l’université. C'est pourquoi ce site et les vidéos sont en anglais. 

    Nous vous invitons à visionner la vidéo suivante pour en apprendre davatange sur le projet. 

    Objectives

    The objectives of the project are the following:

    • Understanding how learning English autonomously differs from doing so in the classroom.
    • Learning strategies to learn English more effectively as an autonomous learner
    • Questioning oneself on current practices as an autonomous learner of English as a second language

    Functioning

    The project is made of 12 videos divided into 3 modules:

    1. Module 1: Psycholinguistic strategies
      1. Brain matters (effects on the brain of learning a second language)
      2. The step-by-step of learning English (steps and logistical considerations)
      3. Adjusting your life to learn (immersion and comprehension strategies)
      4. Motivation and engaging with your learning (motivation and engagement)
    1. Module 2: Technological and cognitive strategies
      1. Learning with devices that surround us (cellphones, intelligent assistants, online platforms)
      2. Learning with online media (movies, series, videos, subtitling)
      3. Meeting others online (tandem learning and virtual interactive spaces)
      4. Practicing and organizing your learning (cognitive and metacognitive strategies)
    1. Module 3: Interactional and intercultural strategies
      1. Integrating culture in your learning (culture-language bonds, cultural meetings)
      2. Being sensitive to others (Intercultural sensitivity, view of others)
      3. Interacting with speakers (diplomatic interactions, setting goals, overcoming fear)
      4. Corrections are important! (Receiving and giving feedback)

    Each video is of approximately 8-10 minutes in length. We suggest that you watch the videos of the same module in a short period of time as they are made to fit together.
